Faroe Islands Safer Internet Day Committee - SSP (skúli, sosialir myndugleikar og politi)

Profile last updated: February 2026

About our SID activities

For Safer Internet Day 2026, the Faroe Islands chose to focus on preventing cyberbullying.

The SID celebrations were held in two parts. The first part was a conference held at the Faroe Arena in October, attended by approximately 2,000 students and their teachers from upper secondary schools. The aim was to gather children from all over the country for enlightenment and one common goal on making the digital arena a safer place for all children to be.

The programme of the conference consisted of presentations and lectures about cyberbullying from different collaboration partners within the digital arena:

  • The educational development institution (Nám) in the Faroe Islands - about how we can understand the dynamics and complexities of cyberbullying and how to prevent it.
  • The Faroese police department - about understanding the law when it comes to illegal image sharing, child pornography, grooming, sextortion, etc. and how these can become entangled within a cyberbullying framework.
  • children rights NGO (Barnabati) - about the free and confidential helpline for children - 116 111 - for children and young people who need someone to talk to.
  • The event ended with a celebratory concert from a popular local pop band.

After the conference, the second part was held on February 10th 2026, where all these schools and students could make their own school projects, such as movies and music videos, about cyberbullying and the importance of bringing awareness to this subject.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

We are creating a better internet in the Faroe Islands by bringing so many  different organisations, companies, schools, students, areas and islands together with one common goal: to create a safer internet together for our children. Both in the form of enlightenment for our children and working closely with the subject in the schools on February 10th 2026.

About us

In the Faroe Islands, Safer Internet Day (Tryggari internetdagur - TID - in Faroese) is organised by SSP, which is an intersectoral collaboration between Schools, Social authorities and Police, working under public mandate to promote the welfare and safety of children and young people, in which digital safety plays a huge role. In this context, SSP also cooperates with other organisations and companies within the online safety arena. Since 2018, Safer Internet Day has been celebrated in the Faroe Islands, in which many schools and students come together each year for enlightenment and working with school projects about how to make the internet a safer place to be.
