About our SID activities
On 11 February 2025, the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (safenet.bg) will celebrate 20 years since its establishment, coinciding with Safer Internet Day—a global initiative observed in over 140 countries worldwide. The event will take place under the motto '20 Years of protecting our children online!'.
The anniversary event will bring together experts from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for Child Protection, municipal representatives, school principals, mobile operators, cybersecurity companies, journalists, members of the SIC Public Advisory Board, teachers, parents, and more.
During the event, the centre will present its achievements over two decades in protecting children and families in the digital space, along with the latest data from the Helpline for Online Safety and the Hotline for reporting harmful content. Additionally, the organisation will recognise and honour its long-standing partners for their contributions.
Later in the day, a dynamic and interactive event will take place, organised by our Youth Panel specifically for students and teens. The session will explore eight key topics, including online bullying, sexting, fake news and fake profiles, AI, and hate speech, using engaging discussions, role-playing activities, and interactive quizzes.
To wrap up, participants will put their knowledge to the test in an exciting final quiz, where the top three winners will receive special awards!
What we are doing to create a better internet...
At the Bulgarian Safer Internet (safenet.bg), we work to make the internet a safer and better place for children and young people by:
- empowering children with digital skills and media literacy to recognise and avoid online risks.
- supporting parents and teachers with guidance on online safety and responsible internet use.
- providing a helpline (124 123) for advice and assistance on digital challenges.
- operating a hotline to report illegal and harmful online content.
- collaborating with institutions, companies, and experts to create a safer digital environment.
By raising awareness, providing expert support, and fostering responsible digital behaviour, we help build a more secure and positive online space for everyone!
About us
The Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (safenet.bg) has been protecting children online since 2005. The centre is now operated by the Parents Association, in consortium with the Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health and the National Network for Children.
For over 20 years, the centre has been committed to ensuring children's online safety by providing two key services:
- Hotline for reporting illegal online content
- Helpline for online safety, available at 124 123, where children, parents, and teachers can seek help, information, or report online issues involving children.
As the only organisation in Bulgaria dedicated to online child protection, the centre believes that the best way to safeguard children is by developing their digital skills and media literacy, empowering them to navigate the internet safely and build resilience against online risks.
