About our SID activities

In Austria, Safer Internet Day (SID) is more than just a day – we dedicate the entire month of February to promoting online safety through Safer Internet Month. Every day in February is an opportunity for schools, youth organisations, and individuals to engage with safer internet topics and actively contribute to a better digital world.

Safer Internet Month – Engaging Schools & Youth

Each year, around 100 schools and youth organisations take part in Safer Internet Month, organising creative and impactful projects on digital safety, media literacy, and responsible internet use. To encourage participation, we run a competition where schools and youth organisations can win workshops and vouchers worth €500. Participants enter by sharing their projects on social media using #SID2025AT or by submitting a form.

Empowering Educators – Youth Symposium for Teachers

To support educators in guiding young people through today’s digital challenges, we are hosting a youth symposium for teachers in February. This event will provide insights, best practices, and interactive discussions on fostering digital literacy and online well-being in the classroom.

New Study on Online Sexual Harassment

As part of Safer Internet Day, we are releasing an important new study on online sexual harassment, which surveyed 400 young people aged 11-17. The study highlights the prevalence, risks, and impacts of online sexual harassment, providing valuable insights for parents, educators, and policymakers to address this critical issue.

By celebrating Safer Internet Month, we emphasise that online safety is an ongoing commitment. Together, we can create a better internet for all!

What we are doing to create a better internet...

At Safer Internet Centre Austria, we are committed to empowering children, young people, parents, and educators with the knowledge and tools they need for a safer and more positive digital experience. Through our initiatives, we provide education, support, and intervention to promote responsible online behavior and combat risks such as cyberbullying, disinformation, and online abuse.

Each year, we coordinate Safer Internet Day (SID) in Austria, engaging thousands of participants in workshops, webinars, and awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of digital literacy and online safety. Our efforts focus on fostering respectful and responsible digital interactions while ensuring that all internet users feel safe and supported.

Through our three key partners—Saferinternet.at, Rat auf Draht, and Stopline—we offer practical guidance, a 24/7 youth helpline, and a reporting system for illegal content. By working closely with schools, policymakers, and the tech industry, we ensure that internet safety remains a national priority.

By joining forces with the global community, we believe that “Together for a Better Internet” is not just a slogan but a shared responsibility.
