IMPORTANT - SIC CO-FUNDING RESULTS

Important change - EC meeting on Tuesday, 17 March 2026 will now focus on the SIC co-funding results

[IMPORTANT CHANGE FOLLOWING SIC CO-FUNDING RESULTS]

Following the recent announcement of the SIC co-funding results, the European Commission would like to meet with the network in the slot previously set aside for the presentation on the EU Action plan against cyberbullying, i.e. Tuesday, 17 March 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 CETClick here to join the Teams meeting.

We will find another slot for the action plan presentation and update the network on the rescheduled date at the earliest opportunity.

In case of questions, please contact Rima in the first instance.

Joint Insafe-INHOPE training meeting, April 2026

Registration now open

As you know, the joint Insafe-INHOPE training meeting will take place in Latvia on Wednesday,15 and Thursday, 16 April 2026. The meeting will be held at the Baltic Beach Hotel in Jūrmala near Riga, and will start at 13:00 on Wednesday, 15 April, with two optional sessions on Wednesday morning: an overview of the Latvian helpline and a “Method Market” focusing on how to use gamification in educational work with Gen Z and Alpha generations.

Registration is now open. We kindly ask that you (and any other SIC colleagues who are planning to attend) register as soon as possible, and by the close of business on Monday, 23 March 2026 at the latest. You will find a link to the draft agenda on the registration page, along with information about the optional sessions and the networking dinner in Riga on Wednesday evening.

As usual at the face-to-face meeting, we will have an Open Space session, which will provide an opportunity for colleagues to share information about their work at their Safer Internet Centre. This could be an opportunity to share interesting research or showcase a particular resource. Please do sign up to host one of these informal sessions when you register – these sessions only work if we have people willing to host, and we know that there is so much expertise, good practice, and wisdom around the network that can be shared.

If you have any questions or need any further information about the training meeting, please contact Karl.

---

Please note, the Insafe Steering Committee meeting, which typically takes place on the Friday after the training meeting, will now take place online. The new date and connection details will be shared with SIC Coordinators shortly.

---
A reminder that we have secured a discounted rate for accommodation at the hotel, covering the period from Tuesday, 14 April, until Saturday, 18 April, for those who would like to extend their stay. You will need to enter the code BIK2026 when you use the online booking form, and this will give you 20 per cent off the day’s best price for all room categories. Cancellation is free of charge up to 10 days before the event.

Resource competition now open for entries

As usual, a resource competition will take place as part of the upcoming joint Insafe-INHOPE training meeting. All EC co-funded SICs are welcome to participate in the competition, with the opportunity to win €5,000, which must be used to make the resource accessible to the wider network (for example, through translation and/or adaptation). The resource could be a video, brochure, book, research report, learning materials – anything that would be of interest and use to the wider network.

Please note that there is no specific topic or target audience for this edition of the resource competition, so SICs are invited to submit any recently created resource.

Submitted entries should meet the following criteria:

  • The resource should be created by an EC co-funded Safer Internet Centre (at the time the resource was created).
  • The resource is suitable for adaptation to benefit the entire network (in the event of victory).
  • The resource is relatively recent (for example, developed within the last 18 months).

Those SICs wishing to take part should submit an entry using this short online form. The deadline to submit entries is the close of business on Friday, 27 March 2026. Please note that each country can only submit one entry. If you are unsure whether a particular resource meets the criteria, please contact Karl or Annarita to discuss.

Please find below an outline of the upcoming deadlines related to the resource competition.

Updated guidelines on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training

[NEW, FOR INFORMATION AND DISSEMINATION]

As announced in the recently adopted EU Action plan against cyberbullying, the updated guidelines on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training have been published.

Originally published in 2022 as part of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027), and included in the recent action plan, these updated guidelines help teachers and educators to better understand disinformation, including its latest developments, and how it can be addressed in the classroom. They provide practical guidance, ready-to-use classroom examples, and clear quality criteria, alongside up-to-date definitions of key developments in digital education, to help teachers, educators and school leaders confidently navigate the changing digital landscape. New in this updated version are:

  1. Generative AI and its impact on disinformation practices.
  2. Reliance on social media and the role of influencers.
  3. Pre-bunking to build societal readiness.
  4. Policy and school leader recommendations to strengthen digital literacy.
  5. Resources, including lesson plans, an updated glossary and specific resources to address cyberbullying.

The guidelines were developed by a Working Group of the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH), comprising experts from academia, teacher training, civil society, broadcasting, and the European Commission.

Further information is available in a press release and news item on the European Commission website. A dissemination toolkit is also available to support with sharing the resource further.

[REMINDER, FOR INFORMATION AND ACTION]

The European Commission has launched a public consultation to assess the impact of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) and explore options for its review. The consultation is organised in four distinct pillars: scope and enforcement, audiovisual commercial communications, protection of viewers, and strengthening of media diversity in the internal market.

Feedback is invited from across the spectrum, including citizens, Member State authorities, companies and industry, consumer organisations, non-governmental organisations (including media freedom organisations), associations of journalists, and academic institutions.

The consultation is open until Friday, 1 May 2026. It is currently available in English, and all other EU official languages will follow shortly.

[FINAL REMINDER, FOR ACTION]

A kind reminder that Safer Internet Day reports (submitted via theassessment platform tools) are due by the close of business tomorrow - Tuesday, 10 March 2026, to enable network-level reporting to the European Commission. Please note, the form covers both the global day of celebration (10/02) and the full campaign period (01/02 - 28/02).

Call for content for the March 2026 edition of the BIK bulletin

[REMINDER, FOR INFORMATION AND ACTION]

The next edition of the BIK bulletin will be published at the end of March 2026, with an overview of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026 celebrations, and updates on the adoption of the EU Action plan against cyberbullying.

As always, we also invite Safer Internet Centres (and their partners) to contribute to the BIK bulletin with general articles on news, resources or events. The content deadline is the close of business on Monday, 16 March 2026 (or sooner if possible). All contributions or queries should be addressed to content@betterinternetforkids.eu.

As a reminder, we generally suggest that articles should be 300 - 600 words in length (but longer focus pieces are fine too), along with copyright-cleared images/photographs/logos if appropriate (please note that we cannot accept AI-generated images). The BIK team reserves the right to edit contributions for house style, etc., but we try to keep these changes to a minimum.
