Involving young people in the development of a digital games toolkit
As part of developing a digital tool to support educational professionals in using Danish-produced digital games in their pedagogical practice, the Centre for Digital Youth Care conducted two user-testing workshops with 30 young people aged 10 to 20. In this article, we describe how these workshops were conducted and present the key findings and outcomes.
Voting at 16
The initiative to reduce the voting age from 18 to 16 occurred through the Electoral Law Amendment Act 2007, indicating that young people are invited to contribute to political decisions and democracy.

Empowering Children’s Participation in Malta
The project Empowering Children’s Participation in Malta enables child participation and youth collaboration in policy-making. It aims to improve the quality of life for children in Malta, giving voice to their needs and perspectives. The project includes a platform and an app to facilitate participation and provide professional support to vulnerable children requiring assistance.

Youth Council on Digitalisation
In the Netherlands, a Youth Council on digitalisation was established in September 2023, together with UNICEF. Children aged 11 to 17 advise the Minister for Digitalisation on relevant topics they encounter in their daily lives. The outcomes are fed into national policy on protecting children in the digital world. This initiative focuses on youth participation by safeguarding children's rights in the digital environment. Children aged 10 to 16 are trained to discuss digital matters that influence their lives, such as cyberbullying, online safety, and positive online content.
Local Government Act (410/2015)
The Local Government Act obliges municipalities to set up a youth council and ensure that it operates properly. According to Section 26 of the Act, Youth councils must be given the opportunity to influence the planning, preparation, execution and monitoring of the activities of the municipality’s different areas of responsibility in matters of importance to the well-being, health, education, living environment, housing or mobility of the municipality’s residents and also in other matters that the youth council considers to be significant for children and young people.
