Safer Internet Day celebrations in Bulgaria

This year’s Safer Internet Day was marked by meaningful conversations, peer learning, and youth engagement. By creating a space for open dialogue, the initiative encouraged participants to reflect on their online experiences and think more critically about the digital environment they navigate every day.

The discussion was held on 3 February 2026 as part of safer internet month, and focused on two themes: how digital media affects democratic dialogue, and how online hate and threats limit young people’s engagement. The aim was for young people to gather around, discuss and find solutions.

Young people are among the most active internet users, yet their voices are often missing from discussions about digital policies and online safety. To address this, the North Macedonian Safer Internet Centre (MKSafeNet) Safer Internet Centre organised the youth panel event “Our voice for a safer digital Europe”, bringing together young people, experts and institutional representatives in Skopje on 20 February 2026.

The program of the summit features new knowledge on children’s lives online and information on the support that the organisations behind the Safer Internet Centre Sweden offer. The program includes The Swedish Agency for the Media’s presentation of three new reports where children and young people’s media use and health, relation to influencers and girls with neuropsyciatric disabilities and online behaviour are examined. There is also a presentation of the Digital Services Act, DSA, from a senior expert of the European Commission.

On Tuesday, 6 February 2024, the Maltese Safer Internet Centre celebrated Safer Internet Day 2024 under the theme Together for a better internet. The increasing prevalence of cyberbullying and other online risks underscored the critical need for collaborative efforts to create a safer online environment. Additionally, members of the public were invited to join the celebration and actively participate in the planned events, reinforcing the message that collectively, we can build a safer and more responsible digital space for all.

In 2023, the Danish Safer Internet Centre organised the Digital Youth Panel with seven group chats where young people discussed, reflected on and responded to different themes related to their online lives. All group chats are text-based and anonymous, which creates high honesty among participants, as their stories are very personal. This setup enables young people to connect, facilitating the group's exchange of advice and support.
