The Youth Internet Monitor 2026 presents current data on social media use among young people in Austria.

The Austrian Safer Internet Center inquires each year: 

Which social networks do young people in Austria use? 
Which platforms are trending, which get less important? 
Are there differences between girls and boys? 

The survey was conducted in October/November 2025. 

500 young people between 11 and 17 years old were asked.

Which social networks are currently popular among young users in Austria? Which networks are most popular among girls? Which ones are ahead among boys?

A recording of a 60-minute webinar for parents and caregivers about children's presence on various social networking sites. 

The webinar was carried out as part of the of Digital Services Act (DSA) 2025 campaign. The experts from the Safe.si awareness centre guided viewers through the most common risks for children and adolescents on social media, and the protective measures prescribed by DSA. 

The recording of the webinar is publicly available on the Safe.si website as well as on the Safe.si YouTube channel and on the ARNES video portal.

The Online Safety and Media Regulation (OSMR) Act 2022 amends the Broadcasting Act 2009 to provide for the establishment of Coimisiún na Meán amongst other things. The Act empowers the Online Safety Commissioner, as part of the wider Coimisiún na Meán, to hold designated online services to account through binding online safety codes.

To support teachers, social workers, and other professionals working with young people, a set of three comprehensive toolkits has been developed, each tailored to different age groups and educational levels. These resources provide practical tools, insights, and workshop materials to facilitate discussions on digital safety, privacy, and online risks.

The Austrian Safer Internet Center inquires each year: Which social networks do young people in Austria use? Which platforms are trending, which get less important? Are there differences between girls and boys? The survey was conducted in October 2024. 405 young people between 11 and 17 years old were asked. The results were published with the Youth Internet Monitor (www.jugendinternetmonitor.at) in January 2025 and are representative of the younger generation of Austria.
