Platform arrangements for this week

New portal teaser banner

Due to a small technical delay, the new platform will now be visible from Wednesday, 9 October 2024 (from around midday CEST).

Onboarding for SIC Coordinators will continue in the coming days, and onboarding for wider network members will commence once the new site is fully live. Please bear with us in the coming days as we transition between the two sites, especially regarding accessing the BIK community/historic community links.

We will send a 'Weekly Update Extra' on Wednesday afternoon once everything is up and running, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please contact the BIK support desk.

Safer Internet Day 2025: meet Ally, the new Safer Internet Day mascot

[REMINDER, FOR INFORMATION]

Over the summer months, a panel of BIK youth representatives have been working alongside professional designers to scope the development of a new Safer Internet Day mascot. Today, we introduce you to Ally - the results of their hard work!

Ally - the Safer Internet Day mascot

Please see this presentation to gain some insight into how the youth-led design process went*and the various deliberations the young people had to bring Ally to life, along with a brief style guide* to give you an insight into some of the adventures we have planned for Ally. Next week, we'll issue the editable design files so that SICs can start updating their resources.

More generally, planning will now start to ramp up for Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025; keep checking the Insafe Weekly Update for the latest information. We kindly remind you that Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 will be marked by a global day of focus on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, and events and activities will take place throughout the whole month, across Europe and the globe!

First full roll-out of MediaSmartOnline coming soon!

[NEW, FOR INFORMATION AND ACTION]

As you know, as part of the BIK+ strategy and BIK Phase 5, we planned to scope, pilot, and organise an EU-wide media literacy awareness-raising campaign, #MediaSmartOnline, in collaboration with the Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs). The main objective is to spotlight existing media literacy initiatives and actions across the network, and build synergies and opportunities for collaboration whenever possible.

We ran the campaign's first pilot test between March and April 2024 and worked with the Media Literacy Campaign Working Group (MLC-WG) over the summer to scale activities to achieve the first full roll-out of MediaSmartOnline across the whole network, which will take place in autumn 2024. From there, we will progressively build it into the BIK calendar of annual campaigns.

We are almost ready to start! The first full roll-out will start on Thursday, 24 October 2024 (the first day of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week) and run for approximately one month, ending on Safer Internet Forum (this year, on 21 November 2024). For future editions of the campaign, we note that Safer Internet Forum dates may change significantly from year to year – if that is the case, the campaign will typically run for one calendar month.

The campaigning materials for the network are now ready. All SICs will be contacted imminently by email, and will receive the full communications package. In addition, all materials will also be available via the new BIK platform right after launch.

If you have any questions, please contact Annarita.
